“Wills for First Responders” Available for Individuals on the Front Lines of COVID-19

Foster Massengill, PLLC is excited to announce that starting May 5, 2020, it will be offering free simple wills and advanced directives to those serving on the front lines of COVID-19: first responders.

The initiative, Will for First Responders, is the law firm’s way of saying thank you to the individuals who are working around the clock to keep Ellis County and the Dallas-Fort Worth area safe from the Coronavirus.

“We spent a lot of time over the last few weeks thinking of those on the front lines of the Coronavirus fighting to keep our community safe and healthy,” attorney JD Foster said. “Even though our law office is considered to be an essential business, we have the benefit of being able to social distance by working remotely and handling client matters by videoconference.

“We can only imagine the daily stress of being in direct contact with the coronavirus day after day, caring for the individuals who are infected and risking infection yourself. We wanted to find a way to say thank you.”

Through this initiative, first responders, which includes doctors, nurses, physicians assistants, police, firefighters and paramedics, will have an opportunity to work directly with Foster Massengill, PLLC to create simple wills and advanced directives.

Foster explains that wills are legal documents that set forth your wishes regarding the distribution of your property and the care of any minor children upon death. Advanced directives include documents such as medical powers of attorney and associated HIPAA releases, statutory durable powers of attorney and identification of guardians for minor children.

Wills for First Responders excludes more complex estate planning functions such trusts or contingent bequests. The offer is subject to a conflict of interest check.

“While Wills for First Responders is certainly not adequate to express our thanks, this is one thing that we could do to support our first responders during this challenging time,” Foster said.
